What Should You Do After an Arrest?

Following an arrest in Illinois, you must take action to protect your rights and interests. First, you should remember to exercise your right to remain silent. When the police ask you questions about criminal offenses after detaining or arresting you, you do not have to answer them. Calmly and politely tell the officers that you decline to answer and would like to exercise your right to remain silent.
Next, you should exercise your right to legal counsel. You have the right to speak with an attorney before police questioning and to have your attorney present during an interrogation. Inform the officers immediately after an arrest that you want to speak to an attorney.
Finally, contact Nold & Walsh, LLC, as soon as possible to discuss your charges and get help with the next stages of your criminal case. Do not attempt to handle any potential evidence or talk to any witnesses. Let our legal team investigate your charges and prepare a compelling defense.

A win for a defense attorney can be hard to define. Often times, a win could mean we negotiate a fantastic plea deal after we file several motions and bar several pieces of evidence.

A win for a defense attorney can be hard to define. Often times, a win could mean we negotiate a fantastic plea deal after we file several motions and bar several pieces of evidence.

Sometimes, we get a win for our client when witnesses fail to show up for trial. Trust me, all defense attorneys have these “wins” under their belt, including us. These are important victories, don’t get me wrong. But to get the most out of your defense attorney, they need to be able to win at trial. Check out our Results page where we highlight cases that a jury or judge decided at trial. Read about examples of when the government would not back off major consequences, and our clients chose to make them prove it.
